It’s likely you know at least one person who goes through many pill bottles – it’s also possible you have a condition requiring daily or at least frequent medicine. While most pill bottles are recyclable and can be disposed of that way, there are plenty of other ways to make use of these sturdy little bottles. For that purpose, you could try using them for a few upcycling projects!
These simple projects only take a few minutes a piece, and it will surprise you how many you can go through in one sitting. You’ll never have to worry if you’re tossing them out properly or about having a drawer or two jampacked with empty pill bottles. So, how about we get started repurposing those pill bottles!
Hiding a House Key
As many know from movies and TV, if people want illegal access to your house, they will search all the obvious places for a spare key—under the front door mat, in the mailbox, under a window token, etc. If you’re worried about being locked out of your house, hide your spare key in an old poll bottle that has a rock glued to the lid. Just place the bottle into a planter box and press it into the dirt until only the rock is showing.
For those days when you think your other half or a good friend needs a pick-me-up, try filling out a “love prescription.” Type up the person’s name, address, “prescription number,” and leave instructions for when to consume the “medication” (candy, gummy bears, etc.). Adhere the label to the bottle and leave it for your friend or lover to find.
If you plan to travel or just plan on staying with a friend for a night, a pill bottle can be used for keeping earrings and rings safe and protected from the elements. They are also good in that, rather than having to buy travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, and lotion or lug around huge containers, you can fill up the pill bottles and save space and money.
Everyday House Container
Pill bottles are also great for small storage around the house, such as for cotton swabs, bobby pins, or even as a moveable sewing kit to keep in the house or even in the car. They’ve even been used for storing nail polish remover for ladies who chip painted nails but still need to get to work in a hurry.
No one ever wants to be in the position of lost within the woods, but for those who consider themselves outdoors people, a small, pill bottle survival kit could save your life or at least help you avoid infection and pain. Some items that can fit (surprisingly) into a pill bottle include two matches (plus a matchbook striker board), a birthday candle, fire straws, a button, a mini finger flashlight, an index card, safety pins, dental floss (20 in.), Neosporin straws, tweezers, ibuprofen, alcohol wipes, cotton balls, band-aids, aluminum foil, and money. You can also wrap about 10 inches of 550 paracord around the bottle itself.
