Our Take on Kilz Primer Sealer Stain Killer
Another new home project that we needed to complete was painting some of the rooms in our home. We strongly believe that a new coat of paint has the power to transform the way a home looks and feels. Some of the rooms, however, had some unsightly stains from leaking water, pets, and smoke damage that needed to be covered up. Since we had some experience with painting in the past, we knew that simply covering the stains with paint would likely result in them resurfacing down the road.
Regular primers were something we looked into when purchasing painting supplies. Although a regular primer would have likely done the job, we wanted something that was specifically created to cover stains since the ones in our home were large and some were very dark. A regular primer would likely cover the stain initially, but we also wanted to ensure they marks would not resurface through the new paint. We had heard a lot about Kilz primers and decided to give the Primer Sealer Stain Killer a try.
After reading the instructions, we prepared the walls, shook the spray, and applied the primer to a small section of the wall. We obviously did not shake the can long enough – the initial application was chalky, rough, and definitely not ready to be painted over. After quickly removing the first coat of primer from the wall, we aggressively shook the can for the recommended amount of time and reapplied. The second application was perfectly smooth with no chalky residue and was ready for paint.
After the primer set, we painted the walls with our desired color. The application over the primer was easy and smooth and really made the paint look even and perfect on the wall. The stains were completely covered and showed no signs of resurfacing. Additionally, we did notice that some of the musty smells that hung in the house dissipated when we applied the primer. The odor sealing formula was great in removing those smells and helping our home to look and feel completely new.
