It is just a matter of time before summer gets here, and being outside in the heat, while still enjoyable to most, will become more difficult. As the temperatures increase daily, staying cool becomes the ultimate goal as well as keeping your car at a bearable temperature, despite the dreaded greenhouse effect. Fortunately, there are a few materials and supplies you can use to make it a breeze and reduce the dramatic heat. So, try some of these tips for keeping the heat out of your car this season!
Whenever you can, park your car in a shaded area to avoid it sitting in direct sunlight for hours on end. Uncovered parking, as we all know, can turn your car into an inferno, but the opposite will keep it from turning into an oven. Of course, at high noon, this can be a difficult task. Try to park near a building or a tree that has a decent cast shadow for you to park in or will have shade as the day passes.
Sunshades and Visors
When covered parking is hard to find, try using a sunshade or a visor, both of which you can find in most stores. Laying these in your rear view before you get out of the car will block out the heat and leave your car at a more bearable temperature.
Dash covers work like sunshades — simply lay the dash cover over your interior every time you park your car. A cover will prevent your dashboard from absorbing too much heat and help keep your vinyl cool. It will also help prevent sun damage and a cracked interior in your vehicle. Before long, you’ll feel a difference and experience a cooler effect.
You can also try using a hand towel to cover your steering wheel. Even if you use a sunshade, you should still cover your steering wheel. Sunlight will still come in from your driver and passenger windows. Placing a small towel on the wheel will keep the temperature down and make the wheel far less hot to touch.
Crack Your Windows
Before exiting the vehicle, leave the windows cracked, but make sure you can’t fit your arm through the crack. This should let some heat escape in the process without leaving your car vulnerable to theft.
Solar Powered Fans
Invest in a small solar powered fan for your car, as it will keep the air circulating in your car, encourage ventilation, and expel hot air. You’ll soon realize it’s worth every penny.
