The tasty food we eat during the holidays is usually not very healthy. It is important to have fun during this season and engage in the occasional food “splurges” but we should not neglect our fitness routines. Here are some ways that you can stay in shape during the holidays without sacrificing your fun.
Step 1: Do not expect the blow the diet over the holidays. Make an effort to stay on the fitness plan by eating right and exercising. You can have the occasional cake, ice cream, and pizza but don’t make it a habit. Rather than expecting that you will gain weight, plan to succeed.
Step 2: Between the shopping, parties, and traveling, holiday schedules get hectic. Plan the workout schedule in advance. Write down any appointments on the calendar and create additional appointments for workouts before, during, and after the holidays. Do not just plant to eat or work out when there is leftover time- plan ahead and adhere to the schedule.
Step 3: Set goals for fitness that you can begin working on over the holidays. Establish an achievable weight loss or muscle gain goal and put it in writing. Keep this list updated throughout the year.
Step 4: Allow yourself time to cheat, but plan this time. Planning the cheat day allows you to better adhere to your fitness and nutrition program. Being too strict sets a person up for binging or cravings. Allowing yourself one cheating meal each week will not have much of an effect on your appearance. Schedule parties and dinners to fall on the cheat day and adhere to the diet on the other days.
Step 5: If you slip from your fitness routine, do not quit. Start back up again without hesitation. Ensure that you are eating according to a consistent schedule because this maintains your metabolism.
