Anyone that has a pet knows this dilemma. You have friends over and they sit down on your couch and leave covered with pet hair. Maybe you are headed out for a big night on the town only to realize you have more fur on you than your dog has! Pet hair can gather on furniture and clothing rather quickly, but we are going to tell you how to clean it off rather quickly, even when it seems like there is nothing there.
One of the reasons hair sticks to us is because of static electricity. When the hair is dry, it can easily move from the furniture to our clothing. Before trying to remove the hair, dampen your hand and then gently wipe it across the furniture. This weighs the hair down and removes that static electricity. As you are rubbing your hand across the furniture, the hair will gather into a ball and you can pick it right up.
If having pet hair in your hands is not something you desire, you can also use a damp sponge. This works especially well in low pile carpeting. Move the sponge in one direction so as not to push the hair back into the carpeting and you will soon see a very large pile of pet hair accumulating.
Believe it or not, a hair curler is a very effective way to remove pet hair. If you have Velcro curlers, you can donate one to the cause by simply rubbing it along the surface. If not, buy some Velcro and attach it to the curler. The fabric on the Velcro works wonders in removing pet hair that is buried in fabric.
Dryer sheets are also a great way to remove pet hair. Simply rub the dryer sheet over the surface and it will pick up any loose hairs. If you use a liquid fabric softener, you can make up a mix of the softener and some water and spray the surface, and then use a damp sponge or towel to gather up the hair.
Packing tape is also a great way to remove the pet hair, but it will not get the hair that is dug down deep in the fabric. This tape is more or less the same tape they sell on the pet rollers, only it costs just a fraction of the price.
Pet hair can definitely be an annoyance for a pet lover. Even when it seems as though you have your home clean, the hair still seems to accumulate. Investing in a good pet vacuum and using these methods above will help to keep your home pet hair free.
