Painting a room gives the area a fresh look. Start by painting the ceiling before you move on to the walls and trim. It is not difficult to do if you have the correct tools and some time. After the paint dries, add some new wall accents and furniture. Repeat this process throughout the home to create new ambiance without doing any construction.
You will need:
• Primer or sealer
• Paint roller
• Roller tray
• Roller cover (for textured ceilings only)
• Roller tray liner
• Paint pail
• Extension pole
• Disposable liner for paint pail
• Drop cloth
Step 1: Spread the drop cloth to cover the floor of the room. Use the screwdriver to remove screws from light shades or vents on the ceiling. Remove these coverings.
Step 2: If the light pan will be removed from the ceiling, turn off power to the room at the electrical panel. In this case, an alternate light source may be needed.
Step 3: Locate all dark stains on the ceiling and apply primer to the area with a paintbrush.
Step 4: Put the disposable liner into the paint pail. Place a liner into the paint roller tray. Pour the paint into the roller tray.
Step 4: Use the paintbrush to paint around the perimeter of the ceiling where a point roller will not reach. After taking paint from the roller tray, scrape off excess into the paint pail to minimize dripping.
Step 5: Put the paint roller on the extension pole and set up the stepladder to reach your ceiling. If the ceiling is textured, a thicker roller cover should be used.
Step 6: Paint the ceiling in small sections, using a movement that resembles the letter M so a series of angles are created.
Step 7: Allow the paint to dry. If the color does not appear even, paint a second coat.
