Planning the Perfect Shower for Mom-to-Be
When a loved one is expecting, everyone is excited to welcome a new baby to the family. One of the most enjoyable customs that goes along with welcoming a baby is throwing a baby shower – this is a time when loved ones get to celebrate the pregnancy and show support for the expectant family. Although this may seem like an easy task, there are a lot of details that need to be considered.
Who Should Organize a Baby Shower?
The only definitive rule when it comes to who should throw a baby shower is that the expectant couple should not be involved. Formal tradition dictates that family members should not host the shower either – it was believed in the past that family members would hold baby showers as a way to be given presents and money and may come off as “greedy.” This is one of the situations where tradition can be tossed aside and any relative or close friend who wishes to take on the task should be allowed to do so.
Timing May be Everything When It Comes to a Baby Shower
Generally, baby showers are thrown before the child is born, anytime between conception and birth. When considering what the best time may be, think about how the expectant mother is handling the pregnancy – more often than not, a baby shower towards the end of a pregnancy is a welcome diversion for mom-to-be. The most important thing to consider when choosing a date is guest’s schedules. Talking to key family members and friends can help determine which date will work for both the mother-to-be and any guests of honor (such as an out of town “special” relative) who would be invited to the shower.
Who should be on the Shower Guest List?
Traditionally, baby showers have strictly included only women but, times are changing! First it needs to be determined how traditional the shower will be and when creating a guest list, make sure to invite friends and family members who are close to the expectant couple. Consult with guests of honor to make sure no one is being excluded and to ensure everyone on the list is in the good graces of the family. The guest list will also be determined by the desired size of the shower – a more intimate shower will have a much smaller guest list so it will be important to invite those who are most important.
Baby showers are a great way to welcome the new baby into the family and show support for the parents-to-be. Whoever is planning the event, whether it is a family member or close friend, needs to make sure they take small details such as timing and guest lists into account. With proper planning and involvement of any guests of honor, the perfect shower can be pulled off without a hitch!
