Gone are the days of the bulky, heavy box television that was barely able to fit in the car for transport from the electronics store. Flat screen televisions are now sold in most stores and they are lightweight, which makes them much easier to move. If the family does not wish to put the new television on a cart or within an entertainment center, it will need to be mounted on the wall. This can be done without help from a professional by following these steps.
You will need:
Step 1: Purchase a mounting bracket compatible with the size of the television. This can be found at an electronics or discount store.
Step 2: If a base is already attached to the television, remove it.
Step 3: Find the holes located on the back of the television. These are where the two small pieces of the bracket will be attached.
Step 4: Place the television face down on a flat surface covered by a blanket or carpet.
Step 5: Align the mounting bracket with the middle of the back of the television. Use the ruler or tape measure to make sure that an equal amount of space appears between the bracket and the edge of the television at both the top and bottom.
Step 6: Find the proper bolts in the bracket packaging and place them through the bracket, into the back of the television.
Step 7: Using the screwdriver, tighten the bolts. Use the washers included with the bracket if necessary. Achieve a tight fit and make sure that the bracket will not move.
Step 8: Find two to three wall studs in the mounting location using a stud finder. The amount of studs will be dependent on the type of bracket. Use a pencil to mark the center of each stud.
Step 9: Hold the larger piece of the bracket on the wall. Line it up with the studs that were identified in step 8.
Step 10: Hold the bracket against the wall. Drill pilot holes into the proper locations on the studs, then use a socket wrench or the drill to screw the large bolts into the studs
Step 11: Pick up the television and mount it on the bracket. Tighten the nuts attached to the bracket. This will secure the television to the bracket.
Step 12: Make sure that everything is secure and properly supported prior to letting go of the television.
