You do not need to overload the electric grid to light the outside of your home this holiday. Beautiful exterior lighting can be achieved in moderation. Try these ways of lighting up the home exterior with minimal supplies. People will be driving down the street just to see your house!
You will need:
• Coiled vine baskets (no liners)
• 100-bulb strand of pearl lights
• 50-bulb strand of white lights
• Strand of pre-lit metal stars
• Clear ornaments
• Garland featuring lights (optional)
• 100-bulb strands of white lights
• 100-bulb strands of red lights
• Wire trees with lights
Step 1: Create sparkling hanging baskets from a 100-bulb strand of pearl lights and coiled vine baskets without any liners. Push the bulbs from the inside to outside of each basket, working them around each one. Fill each basket with clear plastic ornaments and pile a 50-bulb strand of white lights and one strand of pre-lit metal stars.
Step 2: Wrap garland and strands of white lights around a lantern post. Accent the post with bows featuring a holiday pattern.
Step 3: If the entrance to the home features pillars, wrap them with red and white lights. Add some holiday ribbons as accents.
Step 4: A plain doorway becomes magnificent when it is outlined with garland, white lights, and red bows with hanging tails. Place a group of poinsettias on each side of the door to create a focal point.
Step 5: Loop garland around your balcony or porch. Purchase lit garland or intertwine strands of white lights yourself. Tie large red bows at the high points of each loop.
Step 6: Save time and effort wrapping light strands around trees. Instead, purchase wire trees that feature prestrung lights. These are sold in various colors and heights, enabling you to create the perfect look outside your home.
