Forrest Gump would say that candy and February 14 go together like peas and carrots! Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge the sweet tooth. The stores fill their shelves with candy. Though thought the most decadent treats like chocolate covered strawberries are nice, they are also expensive. Making white and dark chocolate dipped strawberries for your sweetheart is fun and saves money. You will win big points with this treat from the heart.
You will need:
• 2 pints strawberries with stems on
• 24 ounces (1.5 pounds) white chocolate
• 8 ounces dark chocolate
• Cookie sheet
• Aluminum foil or waxed paper
• Paper towels
• 2 heating pads or 2 warm towels
• Spatula or spoon
Step 1: Line the cookie sheet with aluminum foil or waxed paper.
Step 2: Rinse strawberries under cold water and use the paper towels to pat them dry. Make sure they are completely dry before proceeding.
Step 3: Temper both the white and dark chocolates separately. Wrap the bottom of each bowl with a warm towel or place each bowl on a heating pad at low temperature.
Step 4: Use the spatula or spoon to drizzle thin lines of the dark chocolate into the bowl containing white chocolate.
Step 5: Hold one strawberry by its stem and drag it in one direction through the dark and white chocolate. Rotate the strawberry and drag it in the opposite direction so the back and front of the strawberry are covered with chocolate. Hold the strawberry over the chocolate and let the excess drip off into the bowl. Carefully place the strawberry onto the baking sheet.
Step 6: Repeat this process with each berry. Place the cookie sheet of berries in the refrigerator and allow 5 minutes of setting time for the chocolate. Serve the strawberries within 2 to 3 hours.
