We’ve heard the old song “Cause I’m a Woman”, about how women can bring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan… Well men, anyone can do that, but not just anyone can catch the trout and turn it into a delicious fish entrée! Everyone knows that food cooked outside on the grill always tastes better, so let’s get those grills fired up and show our women just what a tasty treat we men can create!
- 4 whole approx. 1 lb. trout, gutted and rinsed
- 24 sprigs of fresh thyme, rosemary or other herbs of your choice
- 1 med. red onion, 1/2 in. slices
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbs. olive oil
- kitchen twine
Gentlemen, start your grills! Get a medium high heat going. Lay gutted and rinsed trout side by side on a cleanly prepared work surface. Mix and divide all the ingredients into four small bowls, except the olive oil: herbs, onion, salt, and pepper. Place the herb mixture into the cavity of each trout, then coat the outside of each trout with the olive oil.
This is where that kitchen twine comes into play. Prepare 12, 10 in. pieces of twine. Use three pieces to securely tie around the body of each trout and hold that delicious herb stuffing in place.
Now you’re ready for the grill. For ease in grilling a large grill basket comes in handy. Place your trout in the basket and lay it directly on the grill rack for 7 min. You can easily flip the basket over and it will only take about another 7 min. until the fish is opaque in the middle.
Remove the twine and place trout on an attractive serving platter. Your lady will be begging you to go on another fishing trip!
