French toast has long been a common breakfast food at many restaurants and American homes. Kids and adults love it. There are many variations on French toast, from filled French toast, to the top being sprinkled with cinnamon and/or sugar. This recipe will be for 2 people, and will include a topping of syrup.
You will need:
- 6 slices of Texas Toast bread
- 3 eggs
- Syrup of your choice
- 3 tablespoons of cinnamon sugar
- Frying pan
- Serving plate
- 2 tablespoons of oil
Step 1: Place the 2 tablespoons of oil into the bottom of the frying pan and place on medium heat to ready for the toast. Break the 3 eggs and place into the bowl.
Step 2: Use the fork to break the yolks on the eggs, and begin to drop the cinnamon sugar into the eggs. Stir vigorously with a whisk until the cinnamon is no longer seen as a separate ingredient. Using the fork, pick up one piece of Texas toast and place into the bowl. Make sure that both sides get soaked in the egg mixture. For a fluffier French toast, you can use 2 tablespoons of milk in the mixture before whisking. For those that are lactose intolerant or watching a special diet, using egg substitutes is fine. The packaging for the egg substitute will tell you how much to use in place of one egg.
Step 3: Remove the Texas toast from the bowl and place into the frying pan on the stove. Allow the French toast to cook on each side until the egg is completely cooked and partially browned on the edges of the bread. Do not move or try to scoot the toast around in the pan, simply allow it to cook in one place. Moving the toast could rip the bread and cause the egg to simply smear. This should take no more than about 2 minutes on each side of the toast.
Step 4: Remove the French toast from the pan and place directly onto serving plate. Cover with your favorite syrup for a topping. Other toppings commonly used include shaking bits of powdered sugar on top, cherry or other fruit toppings, as well as a small scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. For a low fat and low calorie diet, using a tablespoon of applesauce or 2 slices of an apple or any fruit is sufficient.
