French toast is a delicious treat that is not just for breakfast anymore, a fact proven by the abundance of restaurants and diners which are serving this meal at all times of the day. It is easy to make and does not take much time to cook, which makes it a convenient meal even for people who are not chefs! Learning how to make is easy, so grab your eggs and get crackin!
You will need:
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1 cup milk
- 10 to 12 slices of white bread
- Butter or margarine
Step 1: Break the eggs into a shallow, wide bowl or a pie plate. Beat them lightly, using a fork.
Step 2: Stir the salt, sugar, and milk into the eggs.
Step 3: Bring a surface burner to medium-low heat or heat the griddle. If using a burner, place a thin layer of margarine or butter in a skillet and heat the skillet on the burner.
Step 4: Individually dip each bread slice in the egg mixture. Allow each slice to soak up the egg mixture until saturated, but not soggy. If the entire slice cannot be briefly submerged in the mixture, flip it over to coat the other side.
Step 5: Soak only the bread slices that will be immediately cooked. Soaking a slice and then letting it sit will cause the bread to become too soggy.
Step 6: Put the soaked slices onto the skillet or griddle. Cook them until their bottoms turn a golden brown shade. Turn the slices and cook the other sides to the same degree.
Step 7: Remove the slices from the skillet or griddle and place them on a plate. Serve the items hot with the accompanying syrup and butter or margarine. This recipe will serve four people.
