With a Website, you can sell a product or service to the online world or simply say something important. It is easy for us to critique the layout or design of sites we visit, but could we do a better job ourselves? Give it a shot by following the instructions below to create your own Website from scratch. Becoming your own Webmaster can be very rewarding.
You will need:
• Internet connection
• Free keyword search tools like Google AdWords or Wordtracker
• Web hosting service
• Website building program or free static site generator (optional)
• FTP program like FileZilla (optional)
Step 1: Come up with an idea for the site. Try to be original and think of topics that you really enjoy and can write about at length. Decide wither you will have a content site and make money through advertising, an e-commerce site that sells products or services, or an affiliate site that sells the products and services of other people. Identify the target market because this helps you tailor site content.
Step 2: Conduct keyword research using Google AdWords, Wordtracker, or other free services. Make a list of keywords that are commonly used but will allow people to reach the site.
Step 3: Create a domain name that is easy to spell and remember. Be creative but concise.
Step 4: Select a Web hosting service and register the domain name. Compare available hosting services to find one that offers everything needed at a low price. If there is no desire to make money online, a free Web host will be fine. Otherwise, look for a host that offers an easy-to-use site builder if you do not have experience creating a site. Be aware that this software is usually proprietary so if the host is changed, the site must be rebuilt.
Step 6: Add the site content, making use of the keywords that should result in a decent ranking with search engines. Incorporate the keywords into the content but do not use them so much as to affect content quality. Supplement content with images, audio, and video.
Step 7: Upload the Web site using the FTP feature provided by the Web host or download an FTP program such as FileZilla.
Step 8: Have friends or family navigate through the site. Identify areas for improvement or clarification.
Step 9: Review the site for design flaws, broken links, and missing tabs.
Step 10: Submit the site to the major search engines. Exchange links with complementary sites and advertise the site through URLs in the signature area of your blog and forum posts regarding relevant topics.
Step 11: Article marketing provides backlinks to the site that help improve search engine ranking. Write meaningful articles on relevant topics and submit them to article directories.
