Whether you are planning the ultimate Thanksgiving feast or just having a few people over for lunch, the dining room table will benefit from some flair. Try your hand at some of these simple crafts to make any meal more festive. Guests will feel like VIPs and will probably want to take home the decorations!
Step 1: Use monogrammed pumpkins to mark place settings. Stack each set of dishes on top of a placement at each place setting. Drape a napkin in a coordinating color over them. Paint a monogram on a small pumpkin and place the pumpkin on top of the napkin. Tuck the ends of the napkin under the plate. Add natural accents like dried leaves or berry sprigs.
Step 2: Create your own place cards and individual menus using Thanksgiving or fall-themed stationery. Add accents like ribbon or leaves. You can even insert a menu into each folded napkin.
Step 3: Make Thanksgiving trivets using glass coasters designed for candles. Attach Thanksgiving-themed paper designs to the coasters using decoupage glue.
Step 4: Create fall-themed wrapped votives with husks used to make tamales. Soak husks in warm water for one minute so they are flexible. Wrap one husk around each votive cup. Secure it in place with a rubber band and trim the excess husk from the top and bottom. Take a thin length of a husk, twist it, and tie it around the center of the votive, then remove the rubber band. Add a fall-scented votive candle to each candle holder.
Step 5: Use scrapbooking supplies to make personalized place settings. Cut circles of cardstock with decorative scissors. Apply a rub-on monogram letter to each circle. Place each place setting under a clear salad plate.
Step 6: Make personalized napkin rings using leather cord, beads, fall-colored card stock, and a marker. Cut the card stock into leaf shapes and punch a hole in each one. Write a guest name on each leaf. Slide the leather cord through the leaf and tie beads at the ends of the cord. Knot the cord ends. Tie the cord around a napkin so the leaf is displayed on the top.
