Space is often at a premium when living in an apartment or small townhome. Just because the area is downsized does not mean your holiday expectations need to be. There are many ways to bring the holiday spirit into the smallest interior spaces. None of these tips require any heavy construction, allowing you to relax and enjoy the holidays.
Step 1: If the interior features a staircase, use the space by the stairs for decorations. Add a small table and top it with a tiny tree in a tall vase. Decorate your mini tree with shiny ornaments and miniature lights, creating a focal point.
Step 2: Use the windows to display holiday cheer. Paint a frame and string ribbon inside of it in a zig-zag pattern, then hang colorful ornaments from the ribbon. Hang the frame from a ribbon attached to the window with a sturdy suction cup.
Step 3: Use existing wall hangings as decorations, adorning them with garland, evergreen sprigs, and other holiday swags.
Step 4: Take advantage of empty wall space, converting the area into a display for a grouping of miniature wreaths. Decorate these with bows, berries, tiny ornaments, bells, and other small accents like felt birds.
Step 5: If the area is too small to accommodate a regular sized Christmas tree, create a wall tree. Find a large evergreen branch and hang it from a decorative hook on the wall. Decorate the tree with holiday ornaments, bows, and a small string of lights.
Step 6: Hang ornaments from light fixtures, curtain rods, and over the doorway.
Step 7: Add decorations to shelves, bookcases, and other nooks and crannies around the house. A shelf is another great spot for the miniature tree. Add a tiny tree skirt and some presents so it looks like Santa paid a visit.
Step 8: Hang mini wreaths from drawer pulls, shelves, and of course, the front door.
