When decorating the interior of your home, making the transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving is not hard to do. Pumpkins, mums, and other items of the season can adorn the home during both festivities. This craft project makes use of these, allowing you to turn your Halloween leftovers into a beautiful centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table.
You will need:
• Florist foam ball
• Craft knife
• Cold water
• Length of wire or a skewer
• Pumpkin stem
• Long vine such as blackberry cane
• Platter with a lip or cake stand
• 60 to 75 button mums, orange carnations, or marigolds
Step 1: Use the craft knife to slice the bottom off the foam ball, creating a flat base. Take some of the rounding off the top of the ball by trimming it.
Step 2: Fill the bowl with cold water and soak the foam until it is completely wet.
Step 3: Use the wire or skewer to poke holes all over the foam, leaving about one inch between each hole. This spacing may need to be adjusted, depending on the size of the flowers. Leave space at the top of the foam ball for the pumpkin stem to be inserted.
Step 4: Use the flowers to cover the ball. Insert the pumpkin stem into the top of the ball.
Step 5: Arrange the long vine around the top of the ball so it appears to be coming out of the stem.
Step 6: Use the platter or cake stand as a base. Place the ball on top of it and keep flowers fresh by adding a small amount of water to the base when necessary.
Step 7: For a large Thanksgiving table, make two of these centerpieces, placing one at each end of the table.
