In certain areas of the home, a hard floor surface just makes sense. High traffic areas like the foyer, kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room need a floor that is easy to clean. If you have a concrete floor in these areas, enhance it with a decorative paint scheme. The surface will have a unique appearance, while offering the simplified maintenance of hard flooring.
You will need:
Step 1: You will be creating a 21-grid pattern, so use the tape measure to find the center line on the floor. Lay out all lines in the room, making equal marks about every 2 feet, with matching marks at the other end of the room.
Step 2: Use the chalk line to lay out your grid in the first direction. Put the tape over the chalk lines in one direction and then do the same in the other.
Step 3: Cover the walls with the plastic covering and put on your work clothes.
Step 4: Follow the manufacturer instructions for mixing the concrete overlay, stain, and water. Be sure to mix the powder into the water to prevent clumping. Mix for two minutes with the paddle bit until the substance has a frosting-like consistency. Allow a few minutes for it to set and stir once more.
Step 5: Spray the concrete overlay on the floor using the hopper gun. Spray evenly and slowly, creating a speckled pattern. Use a second color on top to fill in any gaps and provide a contrasting look. Allow the overlay to set overnight.
Step 6: After verifying that the floor is dry, remove the tape.
Step 7: Cover the floor with waterproof sealer and allow this to dry before walking on the floor.
