Our Take on GrillPro Cast Iron Smoker Box
The GrillPro Cast Iron Smoker Box is intended to add big smoking flavor to your favorite meats right on your own backyard grill. Made from cast iron, this wood chip smoker box is a great accessory for any of those home-spun grill masters who wish to add an extra something to their burgers, hotdogs, steaks, and other cuts of meat. The GrillPro Cast Iron Smoker Box can be used with most charcoal and gas grills and is compatible with your favorite variety of wood chips that are meant for smoking meats.
When the GrillPro Cast Iron Smoker Box arrived, we were surprised by its size – although the smaller size of the box is great for those smaller charcoal or gas grills that many families have, it is possible to not get the same smoking effect with the GrillPro Cast Iron Smoker Box on a larger grill without using multiple boxes. The box is durable and will withstand the heat of either charcoal or gas but it is important to keep in mind that the box may rust if left out in the rain or elements for too long of a time.
We filled the GrillPro Cast Iron Smoker Box with our favorite wood chips and added into the charcoal of the backyard grill. Although it takes a longer amount of time for charcoal grills to heat up, it seemed to take the smoker box and even longer time to get going. Even with the box fully heated, there was not the enormous amount of smoke production you often see with commercial smokers. That being said, the steaks that were cooked with the smoke box did have a great, yet subtle smoky flavor.
